Why we feed our brains not our bodies... Why do we eat when we're not hungry?
Food is the fuel your body needs for energy. The desire to eat is a signal that stores are running low. So, how much...and when...you eat is simply a reflection of how much fuel your body needs to carry on functioning efficiently. You wish.
For most women, it doesn't work like that. Some days, you just eat and eat, sometimes you don't feel hungry at all...then there are those days when you're too full to finish your pasta.
Don't despair if you feel bewildered by your appetite. Most people eat more on weekends and less on Monday...eating when you're bored, stressed or unhappy.
Your appetite is influenced as much by the kind of food you eat as by the quantity...fatty foods, such as ice-cream and chocolate...carbohydrate rich food or proteins. So, boosting your carbohydrate intake in the morning reduces the desire to overeating during the rest of the day, while fat makes little dent on the appetite and can actually make you eat more later.
Fad-free ways to control craving...keep a food diary, this will help you identify your situations that cause you to overeat...just like you eat when you're bored or unhappy...find another ways to distract your thoughts from food, like getting on the phone to a friend.
If you tend to eat when you're hungry or stressed, try going for a vigorous walk instead...it'll also help relieve any tension will usually suppresses the appetite for a while afterwards...before eating ask yourself this question, are you thirsty? Sometimes, we mix up the signals of dehydration with those of hunger. Try drinking a glass of water, then see if you still feel hungry...don't eat too fast, if you do, you'll overeat. It takes around 20 minutes for "full" signal to reach the brain...so relax and take time over your meal.
